RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has officially declared himself the patron-in-chief of the party. Despite his incarceration, Khan’s move underscores his continued influence, even as Barrister Gohar Ali Khan remains at the helm as PTI chairman.
Following a meeting with Khan at Central Jail Adiala in Rawalpindi, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan communicated details of the leadership developments. “Imran Khan has declared himself the patron-in-chief of PTI from today onwards,” Gohar told journalists. “He will lead the protest movement, and all instructions regarding the protests will be given to Omar Ayub. The PTI founder has not yet specified a timeline for the protest.”
Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar emphasized that Khan’s decision does not affect his position as party chairman, dismissing rumors of his removal. “Everyone knows the importance of having a party chairman, and I continue to serve in that capacity,” he affirmed, highlighting the party’s unity.
Addressing organizational responsibilities, Gohar explained that, unlike previous protests where responsibilities were assigned primarily to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, this time different individuals will be tasked with various roles in the protest movement. When asked about Khan’s confidence in party leadership, Gohar clarified that Khan did not express any lack of trust. He also reiterated the party’s preference for resolving issues through dialogue, noting that Khan has kept open the option of negotiations with the establishment. The developments signal a strategic shift within PTI as it prepares for its protest campaign, with Khan asserting his leadership role even from behind bars
