RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has written another open letter to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, alleging political victimization and raising concerns about the widening rift between the military and the public.
In his letter, Imran Khan reiterated that Pakistan’s largest political party is being systematically targeted, and he condemned the “irresponsible and unserious response” to his earlier attempts to engage with the military leadership for the country’s betterment.
Khan, a former Prime Minister and the leader of Pakistan’s most popular political party, emphasized that his life’s work has been focused on earning global recognition for Pakistan. He expressed deep concern over the growing divide between the people and the military, warning that it poses a significant threat to the country’s future. He claimed that if the public had been consulted, 90% would have supported the six points he outlined in his previous letter to the army chief.
The founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) alleged that the current government was illegitimately installed through pre-poll rigging. He further claimed that constitutional amendments and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) were being misused to manipulate the judiciary and suppress political dissent, fueling instability and pushing the country’s economy deeper into crisis.
Khan provided a harrowing account of his imprisonment, revealing that he had been held in solitary confinement for 20 days, deprived of sunlight, and denied access to exercise, television, and newspapers. He also claimed he was only allowed to speak to his sons three times over six months, while his wife and other PTI leaders were repeatedly denied visitation rights, despite court orders.
He accused authorities of deliberately delaying bail hearings for over 2,000 PTI workers and leaders, labeling it as political persecution. Khan also criticized the tightening of digital censorship, cautioning that the misuse of PECA to curb free speech on social media could jeopardize Pakistan’s GSP+ trade status with the European Union. This letter follows his previous appeal to the army chief, in which he called for policy changes and the formation of a judicial commission to address ongoing grievances
