KOHAT: 3 terrorist eliminated by forces as the province has been grappling with a rise in terrorist attacks, with law enforcement agencies frequently targeted.
Earlier this month, a militant assault on a police checkpoint in Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), resulted in the martyrdom of one police officer and the elimination of three terrorists.
The police reported that the terrorists launched an attack on the Fateh Khel checkpost using heavy weaponry, which triggered an exchange of gunfire between the attackers and security forces.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has witnessed an uptick in cross-border terrorism, especially in the border regions of KP and Balochistan.
A report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank based in Islamabad, indicated that June alone saw 78 terrorist incidents across the country, claiming at least 100 lives. Among the victims were 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two members of local peace committees. Additionally, 189 people were injured, with 126 security forces and 63 civilians among the wounded.
In total, the violent events and counter-terrorism operations in June led to the deaths of 175 individuals, including 55 security personnel, 77 militants, 41 civilians, and two peace committee members.
