WEB DESK: India’s former Home Minister, P. Chidambaram, has stated that there is no evidence linking Pakistan to the Pehalgam terrorist attack.
In the attack on the tourist destination of Pehalgam in Indian-occupied Kashmir, 26 civilians were killed, and India had accused Pakistan of involvement without conducting any investigation.
In an interview, former Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram questioned why the Indian government believes that terrorists involved in the Pehalgam incident came from Pakistan. He asked whether the Modi government has verified the nationality of the terrorists or if they lack concrete evidence that links Pakistan to the attack.
Chidambaram further stated that the attackers could also be Indians and may have received training in terrorism within India itself. He criticized the Modi government for not revealing what investigations the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has carried out so far and accused the government of lacking the courage to conduct transparent investigations into the Pehalgam attack.
The former minister also claimed that the Modi government is hiding the damages caused during the conflict, noting that losses in wars are borne by both sides, and India must have suffered damages as well.
Chidambaram emphasized that there is no reason to deny Donald Trump’s role in the ceasefire, and if Trump did have a role, India should acknowledge it. He pointed out that neither neighboring countries nor international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, or SAARC have accused Pakistan of aggression.
It is worth noting that the Pakistani government condemned the Pehalgam incident and offered all possible cooperation for transparent and impartial investigations, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extending assistance. Despite this, India has yet to move beyond allegations against Pakistan, and investigations into the incident remain incomplete
