ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has stated that following Pakistan’s retaliatory action, India itself approached the United States and other countries, requesting a ceasefire.
Talking to the mediaRana Sanaullah said,“As a state and as a nation, we had taken a clear stance — that there would be no provocation from our side, but if our sovereignty was violated, we would definitely respond.”
He continued, “That response was given, and it caused India to suffer embarrassment. It is absolutely true that India approached the U.S. Vice President and other countries, requesting a ceasefire. Initially, they were not even willing to listen to anyone.”
The Prime Minister’s adviser further said, “Expecting India to resolve all matters at the negotiating table, contrary to its past behavior, may not be realistic.”
He also remarked, “On the issue of water, a similar response will be given as it was this time. The Kashmir issue has once again come to the forefront on the international stage, and the Kashmir cause will be highlighted at any cost.”
It is noteworthy that a day earlier, CNN’s International Diplomatic Editor Nick Robertson revealed in a televised interview that for several days, the global community had been attempting to broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan — but failed. India then carried out an airstrike on Pakistani airbases.
He added that following the Indian strike, Pakistan launched a relentless barrage of missiles on India. The Pakistani missile response forced India to return to the negotiating table and step back.
According to the American journalist, the U.S. Secretary of State contacted officials in Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and through those diplomatic channels, the matter was deescalated and a ceasefire was achieved.
