Jadhav’s sentencing: India summons Pak HC; hands over demarche

NEW DELHI: Indian on Monday summoned Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit and handed over him a demarche over the sentencing of RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav by a military court.

Indian foreign Secretary summoned the Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit demarche protesting against the death sentence Kulbhushan Jadhav.

The demarche alleges Jadhav was ‘kidnapped’ last year from Iran and his subsequent presence in Pakistan has never been explained credibly.

Earlier, the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) on Monday handed Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav death sentence after trial for involvement in espionage and sabotage activities in Karachi and Balochistan.

Jadhav was arrested on March 3, 2016 through a counter-intelligence operation in Balochistan’s Mashkel area for his involvement in espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

“The spy was tried through Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under the Pakistan Army Act (PAA) and awarded the death sentence. Today Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa confirmed his death sentence awarded by FGCM,” the military’s media wing said.
