Indian actor Satish Shah, of Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai fame, dies at 74

WEB DESK: Veteran Indian actor Satish Shah, cherished for his comedic roles in films and television series such as “Main Hoon Na” and “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai”, has passed away in Mumbai. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit shared the news through social media.

He revealed, “It is with deep sorrow and shock that I inform you of the passing of our dear friend and talented actor Satish Shah a few hours ago due to kidney failure. He was taken to Hinduja Hospital, where he took his final breath. This is an immense loss to our industry.”

Born on June 25, 1951, in Bombay (now Mumbai), Shah made his Bollywood debut in 1978 with the film Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan. His breakthrough came with the iconic role of Municipal Commissioner D’Mello in the 1983 satire Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, alongside Naseeruddin Shah.

Throughout his illustrious career, Shah appeared in over 250 films, including notable titles like Hum Saath Saath Hain, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, and Om Shanti Om.

Shah was also widely recognized for the 1984 sitcom “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi”, where he showcased his versatility by portraying 55 different characters across 55 episodes. However, his portrayal of Indravadhan Sarabhai in the 2004 sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai remains his most iconic role, earning its place as one of the most beloved Indian TV shows of all time.
