Islamabad (June 13, 2018): Pakistan summoned the Indian Acting Deputy High Commissioner and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violation by the Indian occupation forces along the Line of Control yesterday Chirikot Sector, resulting in the Shahadat of one innocent civilian, M Shakeel s/o Alam Din in Trothi village.
The Indian acting Deputy High Commissioner was summoned to the foreign office in Islamabad today and a strong protest was lodged with him on the ceasefire violation.
On the occasion, the Indian side was urged to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement and investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations, instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC and the Working Boundary.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr. Muhmmad Faisal in a statement today said the Indian forces have continuously been targeting civilian populated areas along the Line of Control and the Working boundary.
He said the deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws. The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.
It may be recalled on May 29, a special hotline contact was established between the Director General Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan and Indian, the military media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
Both DGMOs reviewed the prevailing tense situation along the Line of Control and working boundary and mutually agreed to undertake concrete measures to improve the existing situation ensuring peace and avoidance of hardships to the civilians along the borders, the statement said.
The officials also agreed to fully implement the ceasefire understanding of 2003 in letter and spirit and to ensure that the ceasefire agreement will not be violated by both sides from now on.
“In case of any issue, restraint will be exercised and the matter will be resolved through utilisation of existing mechanisms of hotline contacts and border flag meetings at local commander’s level,” ISPR said.
A number of cases of LOC violations by India have been reported by the Pakistan Army.
The military’s public affairs wing noted that so far, during the current year, 219 innocent civilians had fallen casualty, both martyred and injured due to Indian targeted ceasefire violations. The breaches of the ceasefire are following last year’s pattern when over 1,800 were reported.
