The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has linked the possibility of the Indian cricket team’s visit to Pakistan for the next year’s ICC Champion’s Trophy to go-ahead from the Modi government.
Rajeev Shukla, the BCCI vice-president, made it clear that the team would only go to Pakistan if the government gives the green light. Shukla stressed that the BCCI always follows government orders when it comes to team tours.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is busy making security plans for the Indian team ahead of the Champions Trophy set for February next year. The PCB has suggested Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi as potential venues to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will ask for input from the participating nations.
The eight-team tournament is anticipated to span over two weeks, although the exact dates have not yet been confirmed.
According to the media sources, Pakistan has decided to minimise India’s travelling as a security measure. It was further revealed that in the first round, all of India’s matches will be held in Lahore.
This event will mark the return of the ICC Champions Trophy after an eight-year hiatus, with its last occurrence in 2017, when Pakistan emerged victorious by defeating India in the final.
No Indian team has played in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup.
The teams confirmed for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy include Pakistan (hosts), India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, England, and Bangladesh.
