Indonesia aims to bolster defense, strategic Partnerships with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to deepening bilateral relations across multiple domains—including economic, strategic, commercial, and defense sectors.

During a meeting with Indonesian Defence Minister Lieutenant General (retired) Syafrie Samsudin, who paid a courtesy call, the Prime Minister highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations, emphasizing their shared cultural, religious, and historical bonds that foster mutual support on the international stage, according to a statement from the PM Office.

Lieutenant General (Retd) Syafrie Samsudin conveyed warm regards from Indonesian President Prabowo Subiantro to Pakistan’s leadership and people. He expressed Indonesia’s strong interest in strengthening defense collaborations with Pakistan, particularly in the realm of defense manufacturing and technology exchange.

Recalling his fruitful discussion with President Prabowo during the G-8 summit in Cairo, Prime Minister Shehbaz extended his best wishes to the Indonesian leader. The dialogue underscored the deep-seated brotherly ties and friendly relations that have historically characterized Pakistan-Indonesia relations.Both leaders underscored the significance of expanding cooperation across various fields. Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing partnerships with Indonesia in areas including the economy, strategic initiatives, trade, and defense, with particular emphasis on defense production.

The meeting also reviewed current initiatives under the Pakistan-Indonesia Defense Cooperation Agreement, with an agreement to expedite progress in key areas of shared interest. Additionally, Indonesian Defence Minister Lieutenant General (Retd) Syafrie Samsudin conveyed the Indonesian President’s best wishes to Pakistan’s leadership and population.
