RAWALPINDI: Security forces foiled an infiltration attempt by militants crossing from the Afghan border, killing 25 of them in an exchange of fire.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), five soldiers of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom during the intense clash. The militants attempted to cross the Afghan border into Pakistan at two locations in North Waziristan and Kurram. The attempt was successfully repelled by security forces. 15 militants were killed in Spinwam, while 10 were eliminated in Ghakhi.
The ISPR said that security forces effectively targeted the militant groups. Among those killed in Spinwam were four suicide bombers. A large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosive material was recovered from the slain militants.
During the fierce exchange of fire, five soldiers sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation. The martyrs include 35-year-old Havildar Manzoor Hussain from Ghizer, 23-year-old Sepoy Nauman Ilyas Kiyani from Poonch, 24-year-old Sepoy Muhammad Adil from Kasur, Sepoy Ali Asghar from Pakpattan, and 25-year-old Sepoy Shah Jehan from Vehari.
The army’s spokesperson said that the soldiers fought with exceptional courage and determination, setting a new example of bravery. The infiltration attempts took place as delegations from Pakistan and Afghanistan were holding talks in Türkiye. Such incidents raise serious concerns about the interim Afghan government’s commitments against terrorism.
