The spot fixing scandal has rocked the second edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) that has just started in Dubai, as PCB suspended two players of Islamabad United franchise and others players are being investigated for their reported links with suspected people.
AbbTakk News has obtained the inside story of the scandal. Sources said that the main ‘character behind the scaled, who facilitated the bookies to contact the players, was turned out to be former test player of Pakistan.
They said that test cricketer Nasir Jamshed facilitated the bookies in contacting the players. He reportedly made contacts with different players and persuaded them to have a meeting with the bookies.
The source said that Jamshed sent a message to Khalid Latif of Islamabad United asking him to meet a man. Khalid replied saying why he should meet him. Upon this Jamshed said that he was his relative.
They added that Sharjeel Khan was caught by Pakistan Cricket Board Security In-charge while talking to someone over phone. His mobile phone was confiscated which led to revelation of the scandal.
Sharjeel was reportedly offered Rs2 million for just missing a single ball.
The investigation has expanded to include Quetta Gladiators’ Zulfiqar Babar, whereas more players have been revealed to have had contacts with bookies. Karachi Kings’ Shahzaib Hasan was called from the ground for questioning and his mobile data was recovered by the officials, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the PCB has issued show cause notice to the suspended player Sharjeel Khan and Kahlid Latif and asked them to respond within a week. On the other hand, the PCB also suspended the central contract of the players.
