RIYADH: Interim President of Syria, Ahmad al-Sharaa, has arrived in Saudi Arabia for his first foreign visit. Ahmad al-Sharaa was accompanied by Syria’s interim Foreign Minister, Assad al-Shibani. At the airport, Riyadh’s Deputy Governor, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Aziz, welcomed Ahmad al-Sharaa.
According to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during his visit to Saudi Arabia, Ahmad al-Sharaa will also meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
In an interview, Ahmad al-Sharaa stated that Saudi Arabia could play an important role in Syria’s future and also highlighted investment opportunities in Syria.
In that interview, he mentioned that he was born in Saudi Arabia and spent the first seven years of his life there.
It is worth noting that recently, Syria’s new leadership had annulled the country’s constitution, after which Ahmad al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammed al-Julani, the leader of the Syrian rebel group that overthrew Bashar al-Assad’s regime, was appointed as the country’s interim president.
