Interior ministry declares TLP banned organisation under anti-terrorism act.

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has officially designated Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) as a banned organization, issuing a notification to include it under the First Schedule list.

As per the notification, the federal government has determined that TLP is involved in terrorist activities. Consequently, under the Anti-Terrorism Act, the Ministry of Interior has formally declared it a proscribed entity.

With this announcement, TLP is now recognized as a banned group. The Ministry of Interior will forward its report to the Law Ministry, which is tasked with preparing a reference and presenting it before the Supreme Court.

The notification also emphasizes that the federal government possesses substantial evidence connecting TLP’s activities to acts of terrorism.

A prior development saw the federal cabinet greenlighting the ban during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Sources reveal that this decision emerged from discussions within the federal cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During the meeting, the interior ministry was directed to finalize the necessary legal formalities.
