Investigation concludes journalist Khawar Hussain’s death was a suicide

KARACHI: The three-member inquiry team has officially declared the death of journalist Khawar Hussain as a suicide, submitting a comprehensive 30-page report to Sindh Inspector-General Ghulam Nabi Memon on Friday.

The investigation team concluded that Hussain’s death was a suicide, based on an in-depth analysis of the crime scene, witness interviews, post-mortem and forensic reports, and CCTV footage review. The report features an eight-page section supported by medical records.CCTV footage from Karachi to Sanghar was examined to trace Hussain’s movements, including footage from the hotel parking area up to the location of the incident. DIG Irfan Baloch, a committee member, stated that no individuals were seen approaching Hussain’s vehicle during the event.

The investigation also included review of call records and witness statements from people who last contacted Hussain. The forensic and post-mortem reports confirmed that the bullet found in his head was fired from his licensed pistol. While the evidence points to suicide, the committee emphasized that understanding the underlying reasons behind Hussain’s decision would require cooperation from his family.
