Iran fostering terrorism for a long time, Vedant Patel

Web desk: Iran should stop its destructive activities in Syria, the deputy spokesperson of the US State Department.

In a recent press briefing, Vedant Patel, Deputy Spokesperson for the US State Department, addressed several critical issues concerning Iran, emphasising the nation’s long-standing role in fostering terrorism and its destabilizing activities in Syria.

Patel firmly stated, “Iran has been fostering terrorism for a long time,” reinforcing the United States’ position on the need for accountability regarding Iran’s actions in the region. He urged Iranian authorities to cease their destructive activities in Syria, which he described as contributing to regional instability.

In a separate but related matter, Patel acknowledged the temporary release of Iranian human rights advocate Nargis Mohammadi, a Nobel laureate. Mohammadi, who has been vocal against the country’s hijab ban, was released on medical grounds for a duration of 21 days. However, Patel made it clear that the US demands her unconditional release. “We are aware of her situation and reiterate our call for her unconditional release,” he stated. Nirgis Mohammadi’s arrest in 2021 for her activism has drawn international attention, with many calling for her freedom in light of ongoing human rights violations in Iran.

The press briefing highlighted the US commitment to human rights and accountability in Iran, reflecting broader concerns over the country’s actions both domestically and internationally.
