Iran warns it could block oil transit through strait of hormuz

TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has issued a strong warning that it could prevent oil shipments from passing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, declaring that “not a single drop of oil will be allowed to pass.”

At the same time, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the United States Navy is preparing to escort and protect commercial vessels navigating the crucial shipping route.

The Iranian Guards also responded to remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who had spoken about securing maritime trade in the area. The force challenged the statement, claiming that the U.S. has not yet deployed ships capable of reopening the Strait and reiterating that oil transit would be blocked.

Iran’s military force further stated that its full naval capabilities have not yet been displayed, noting that only missiles and drones have been seen so far.

In a separate development, an explosion was reported near a port in Kuwait, where a cargo tanker was damaged and oil was said to have leaked into nearby waters. Authorities reported that all crew members on board were unharmed.
