ISLAMABAD: : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Saturday for a two-day official visit, the Foreign Office announced on Friday. The visit is at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and aims to bolster bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Foreign Office confirmed that President Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, including Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, senior ministers, and other top officials. During his stay, the Iranian leader is expected to meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and engage in delegation-level discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This marks Pezeshkian’s first official visit to Pakistan as Iran’s President.
Prime Minister Shehbaz last traveled to Iran on May 26, 2025. The upcoming visit is seen as a step toward strengthening the historic brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran.
According to Mehdi Sanai, Political Adviser to the Iranian President, the agenda includes meetings with cultural and business leaders, emphasizing the multifaceted relationship that spans political, economic, religious, and cultural spheres. The visit aims to expand provincial and border cooperation and increase trade, which currently stands at around $3 billion.
Pezeshkian’s trip marks the second Iranian presidential visit to Pakistan within two years, following the visit of Ebrahim Raisi in April 2024—just a month before his tragic demise in a helicopter crash. Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Iran in May 2024, engaging with Iranian leaders including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and President Raisi. Their discussions focused on enhancing trade, regional connectivity, and strategic partnership, while also addressing regional issues such as the ongoing conflict in Gaza and regional peace efforts.
The visit underscores the growing importance of Pakistan-Iran relations, with a focus on regional stability and cooperation.
