TEHRAN: In a phone conversation Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reassured Russian President Vladimir Putin that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons. The discussion followed recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory.
Pezeshkian stated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently maintained that it does not seek nuclear arms and remains willing to offer guarantees on this matter to relevant international authorities,” according to an official Iranian presidential release.Meanwhile, Putin conveyed Russia’s willingness to serve as a mediator between Israel and Iran to prevent further escalation. The Kremlin announced that Putin also spoke separately with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, condemning Israel’s recent military actions and proposing diplomatic channels to de-escalate tensions.
During his dialogue with Netanyahu, Putin emphasized the importance of resolving Israeli-Iranian tensions through peaceful means and urged a return to diplomatic negotiations. The Kremlin highlighted that Moscow is ready to facilitate dialogue to prevent further hostilities.Israeli officials indicated that Netanyahu intended to update Putin on the latest developments in the region.
In his conversation with Pezeshkian, Putin offered condolences for the casualties resulting from Israeli strikes and expressed Moscow’s strong condemnation of Israel’s actions, which it considers violations of the UN Charter and international law. Putin reaffirmed Russia’s full support for diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing Iran’s nuclear program and called for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing disputes.
