Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei ‘Safe’ despite war injury rumors

TEHRAN: Rumors circulating about an injury to Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei during the ongoing conflict with Israel and the United States have been denied, with officials saying he remains in good health.

According to Yousef Pezeshkian, who also serves as a government adviser, the claims about Khamenei being injured are inaccurate. In a message posted on his Telegram channel, he said he had contacted individuals with reliable connections and was assured that Mojtaba Khamenei is “safe and sound.”

Earlier, Iranian state television had referred to Khamenei as a “wounded veteran of the Ramadan war,” but it did not provide any details about the nature of the alleged injury.

Meanwhile, tensions in the region remain high. A maritime security agency reported that a cargo vessel caught fire after being struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, forcing the crew to abandon the ship.

In the Gulf region, several explosions were also heard in Doha, according to journalists on the ground.

Separately, the conflict has expanded into Beirut, where Lebanese state media reported that an Israeli strike hit an apartment building in the city center. It marked the second time the heart of the capital has been targeted since the latest escalation involving the Iran-backed group

Earlier Israeli airstrikes also hit Beirut’s southern suburbs and parts of southern Lebanon after the Israel Defense Forces warned residents to evacuate. Lebanese authorities say nearly 760,000 people have now been registered as displaced due to the ongoing hostilities.
