IRSA Diminishes Punjab, Sindh Share By Nine Per Cent

Islamabad (June 25, 2018): The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has slashed the water share of Punjab and Sindh on Monday by nine per cent citing the main cause dearth of water resources.

According to IRSA spokesperson, the inflow of water in rivers decreased by 48000 cusecs in the current season as citing the cause of low temperature in northern areas.

“Due to acute shortage provinces are being supplied water from water reservoirs,” IRSA spokesperson said adding that the water reservoirs stand at 1.36 million acre at the moment. IRSA also informed that Punjab being provided 115000, Sindh 50000, Balochistan 14000 and KP 3100 cusecs water.

On April 30, Indus River System Authority has informed that country is going to face again water crises as Reservoirs are close to dead level.

Tarbela dam probably would be at a dead level in 3 to 4 days, the reservoir is at 6 feet level.

At this time 64 thousand cusecs are provided to Punjab, whereas Sindh is getting 45 thousand only.

According to Irsa sources, the authority has extended 3 and 5 thousand cusecs to Punjab and Sindh respectively due to water necessity.
