Islamabad airport flight services halted

ISLAMABAD: Flight schedules at Islamabad International Airport will be temporarily paused in preparation for the Pakistan Day flypast rehearsal, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) announced.

Sources at the airport stated that the rehearsal is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., during which all take-offs and landings will be suspended. Flight operations are expected to resume shortly after, around 1:15 p.m. Aircraft already airborne have been advised to carry extra fuel to accommodate possible delays due to airspace restrictions.

The PAA issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) confirming the temporary airspace closures, which will also impact certain routes within the Lahore Flight Information Region. Airlines have been cautioned that these restrictions could cause delays and schedule disruptions.

Additionally, flight operations at Karachi Airport were affected, with some flights, including a Karachi-to-Islamabad route operated by AirSial, being temporarily grounded. Officials indicated that flights from Karachi would resume once Islamabad’s airspace reopens.

The security and aviation authorities clarified that these measures are part of the official arrangements for the upcoming Pakistan Day flypast event on March 23.
