ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad has dismissed a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) concerning the alleged deaths and injuries during the party’s November 26 protest, acquitting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Information Minister Atta Tarar, Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, and other officials.
The verdict was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka after previously reserving the decision. The petition had been submitted by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, who sought legal action against the government officials over the protest-related incidents.
Separately, on July 24, 2025, an Islamabad trial court sentenced more than 10 PTI workers to six months’ imprisonment each in three cases linked to the same November 26 demonstrations.
The cases involved over 100 PTI members charged under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act. Among those named were Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Two of the cases were registered at Ramna Police Station, while the third was lodged at Tarnol Police Station in Islamabad. The court had also declared several accused individuals as proclaimed offenders.
