Islamabad infection disease Hospital, Regional Blood Center handed over to Indus Hospital

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ministry of Health has transferred the management of Islamabad Infection Disease Hospital and the Regional Blood Center to Indus Hospital.

Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, Federal Minister of Health Mustafa Kamal described the event as a significant and historic day for the healthcare sector. He announced that two agreements had been signed between the Indus Health Network and the Ministry of Health.

Under these agreements, the Islamabad Infection Disease Hospital and the Regional Blood Center have been handed over to Indus Hospital, with the government approving the transfer.

Mustafa Kamal mentioned that the Infection Disease Hospital was constructed with Chinese collaboration, while the Regional Blood Center was established with modern facilities through German assistance.

The Federal Minister emphasized that the government had transparently engaged independent consultants in accordance with all legal and procurement rules, with Indus Hospital participating in the process. Additionally, the government managed to reduce costs through this collaboration.

He stated that the aim is not merely to operate the buildings but to provide the public with high-quality, effective, and sustainable healthcare services. The focus is on establishing a robust system that will remain effective even with future governments, rather than temporary arrangements.

Mustafa Kamal expressed confidence that these hospitals will not only deliver services exceeding current standards but will also serve the public under a sustainable system for many years.

The Minister further highlighted that if water sanitation and blood screening are improved across the country, up to 80% of diseases could be prevented. He mentioned ongoing efforts to promote lifestyle medicine, emphasizing a shift from treatment through medicines to improving lifestyle choices. He pointed out that antibiotic resistance has increased in Pakistan, and while the country’s patients typically recover in eight days, in the rest of the world, recovery occurs within three days.
