PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned march towards Islamabad will not result in the release of party founder Imran Khan.
In a statement on Friday, Kundi said the proposed September 27 march was aimed at securing Imran Khan’s release, but argued that taking the protest to the federal capital would not achieve that objective.
He called on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to concentrate on governance and address problems within the province instead of preparing for a long march and protests in Islamabad.
Referring to the recent Kohat Police Lines attack, the governor said the security situation in KP required immediate attention. He also pointed to protests by doctors and other challenges facing the province.
Kundi said KP was dealing with multiple issues while preparations were under way for a march to the federal capital. He urged the provincial government to focus on law and order and the concerns of residents.
The governor also highlighted the contribution of young people and business communities in projecting a positive image of KP, saying the province’s youth were making progress in various fields.
On the regional situation, Kundi said the conflict involving the United States and Iran had created a crisis in the region. He also criticised calls for the closure of marriage halls and hotels, saying such measures could have a greater impact on a province already facing security challenges.
Commenting on the debate over the creation of new provinces, Kundi said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was not involved in any plan or conspiracy in this regard.
He said the creation of new provinces was ultimately a matter for Parliament, adding that any decision taken by elected representatives would be implemented.
Kundi further said proposals concerning a separate Hazara province had not secured support in KP, while Punjab had also not backed the creation of new provinces.
