Islamabad performs its first-ever robotic surgery successfully

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad has achieved a major breakthrough in the medical field with the successful completion of its first robotic-assisted surgery.

The landmark procedure was performed at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) with the help of the advanced Tomaye Surgical Robot.

Renowned international surgeons from the United Kingdom also took part in the operation, adding global expertise to the historic event.

The surgery was carried out under the supervision of Professor Shamim Khan, Professor Mateen Sharif, and Dr. Javed Burki. A dedicated team of PIMS doctors, including Dr. Atif Inam Shami, Dr. Burhan-ul-Haq, and Dr. Khalid Saeed, actively participated in the procedure.

Addressing the media, Director Robotic Surgery Dr. Mateen Sharif highlighted that robotic technology will significantly improve the safety, precision, and outcomes of complex surgical procedures.

He noted that the Tomaye robot is a Chinese-developed system and emphasized the vision of introducing robotic surgery across hospitals nationwide.

Dr. Mateen also confirmed strong government backing for the initiative. He shared that the surgery was performed on a female patient.
