ISLAMABAD: A senior police officer, serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Industrial Area, reportedly took his own life while on duty near the Serena checkpoint on Thursday.
Police sources confirmed that SP Adeel Akbar sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to PIMS Hospital by colleagues, where he succumbed during medical treatment.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to uncover the details surrounding the incident, with evidence being collected from the site.
A spokesperson for Islamabad police stated that further information would be shared following the completion of the inquiry. The motive behind the act remains unknown, officials noted.
Sources revealed that the SP was tasked with overseeing security arrangements for the Pakistan and South Africa cricket teams near Serena Hotel when he reportedly obtained a firearm from another officer before taking the fatal action.
