Occupied Al-Quds: At least 19 people are killed in Israeli attacks throughout the Gaza Strip, including five members of the same family in al-Mawasi – a “safe” zone repeatedly targeted by Israel.
International condemnation continued over Israel’s attack that killed 18 people at a UN-run school, including six UNRWA aid workers.
The UN says the facility was used as a polio vaccination centre.
UN chief Antonio Guterres tells Al Jazeera the US must pressure Israel to end its devastating war on Gaza but admits, “I know the American political life sufficiently to know that will not happen.”
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasised the need for the United States (US) to increase pressure on Israel to end its devastating war on Gaza.
Guterres also criticised the failure of the UN Security Council to address major conflicts such as those in Gaza, blaming global powers for enabling nations and movements to act with impunity.
He also referenced the International Court of Justice’s ruling that the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem is illegal and must end, with those territories part of an independent Palestinian state.
At least 41,118 people have been killed and 95,125 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. In Israel, the number of those killed in the Hamas-led attacks on October 7 is at least 1,139, while more than 200 people were taken captive.
