DUBAI: A series of Israeli drone strikes targeted multiple locations in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, leaving several people injured, according to Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA).
The report said three separate drone attacks struck the city of Tyre, while another strike targeted the Bint Jbeil district in the Nabatieh governorate. The latest attacks come despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions in the region.
On Tuesday, Iran accused Israel of violating the Lebanon ceasefire agreement 84 times since a memorandum of understanding was reached between Tehran and Washington. Iranian officials warned that continued military operations could trigger a “harsh response.”
The warning followed Israeli strikes that killed four people in southern Lebanon. At the same time, US President Donald Trump publicly urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to act “more responsibly” regarding military operations in Lebanon.
According to Lebanese media, two vehicles were hit in separate drone strikes in Mayfadoun, while a third vehicle was targeted in the nearby village of Shoukin, resulting in multiple casualties.
Throughout negotiations with the United States, Iran maintained that any ceasefire arrangement must include an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Although the full text of the agreement has not been released, Pakistan, which is serving as one of the mediators, said the understanding calls for an immediate halt to military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Israel’s continued presence in southern Lebanon would be inconsistent with the agreement, arguing that the conflict cannot be considered over until Israeli troops withdraw from territories captured during the war.
Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters also warned that its armed forces would respond forcefully if Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon continue.
In a phone conversation with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Iranian official Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf urged the United States to pressure Israel to end its military campaign, halt home demolitions and withdraw its forces from occupied Lebanese territory.
Despite the diplomatic developments, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israeli forces will remain in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah has reportedly received assurances from Tehran that Iran will push for a complete Israeli withdrawal during the next round of talks with Washington.
Residents returning to Nabatieh expressed concern over the fragile security situation. Many said they remain uncertain about the future and fear renewed violence after years of conflict.
Since fighting resumed on March 2, Lebanon’s Health Ministry says at least 3,826 people have been killed and 11,851 others injured in Israeli attacks across the country.
