WEB DESK: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly accepted responsibility for the recent pager blasts in Hezbollah’s electronic devices in Lebanon.
Speaking to Israeli media, Netanyahu confirmed that Israel was behind the explosions, which targeted Hezbollah’s communications equipment.
Netanyahu also acknowledged Israel’s role in the targeted assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, for the first time a senior Israeli official has openly admitted responsibility for the pager blasts, which have sparked significant controversy.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s statement came after the dismissal of the country’s Defense Minister. According to reports, Netanyahu had pushed for the attack despite opposition from the defense ministry, which opposed the operation. Netanyahu reportedly informed members of his cabinet that he had authorized the action against Hezbollah, in the face of the defense minister’s objections. The pager blasts occurred on September 17 in various locations across Lebanon, resulting in multiple casualties, with several individuals killed or injured.
