Israeli Strikes Result in 22 Deaths in Gaza, Including Two at Holy Family Church

GAZA: At least 22 individuals have lost their lives in recent Israeli military operations across the Gaza Strip, according to medics and church representatives. Among the casualties, two people died during an attack on Holy Family Church, a site where the late Pope Francis frequently communicated.

The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem reported that a man and a woman were killed, and several others sustained injuries in what they described as an “apparent strike” by Israeli forces on the church. The attack caused significant damage, with photos showing the church’s roof struck near the main cross, blackening the stonework, and shattering windows.

The Patriarchate issued a statement expressing their prayers for the souls of the deceased and calling for an end to the violence, condemning the targeting of innocent civilians as unjustifiable.

During the attack, Father Gabriele Romanelli, an Argentine priest who regularly provided updates to the late Pope Francis about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, was lightly wounded. Images from TV showed him at Gaza’s Al-Ahli Hospital, sitting with a bandage wrapped around his lower right leg as he received medical treatment.
