Occupied Al-Quds: Starving Gaza residents hold muted Eid al-Fitr celebrations as Israel continues to block food deliveries and launch deadly air raids.
In his harshest criticism yet of the devastating war on Gaza, US President Joe Biden told Israel to “just call a ceasefire” and described ongoing military operations as a “mistake”.
The UN says half of March’s food convoys earmarked for northern Gaza – where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians face famine – were blocked by Israeli authorities.
At least 33,482 Palestinians have been killed and 76,049 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attacks stands at 1,139 with dozens still held captive.
Israel denied access to 40% of all food aid missions in Gaza, said the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.
It further said that access for the UNRWA is particularly strained with Israel blocking all its food convoys since March – and blocking all its food convoys to the north of the enclave since January, Al Jazeera reported.
US President Joe Biden said in an interview published on Tuesday that Israel should allow more food and medicine into Gaza.
“What I’m calling for is for the Israelis to just call for a ceasefire, allow for the next six, eight weeks, total access to all food and medicine going into the country,” Biden said interview.
