WASHINGTON: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized to his Qatari counterpart for Israel’s attack in Doha during a telephone call from the White House on Monday.
The call to Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani came as Netanyahu met with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. A Qatari technical team is also at the White House, according to a separate source briefed on the talks.
It is noteworthy that Israel carried out an airstrike on September 9th on the main office of the Palestinian resistance organization Hamas in Doha, Qatar. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of five Hamas members, including the son of Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, and one Qatari security personnel.
According to Hamas, the Israeli strike targeted Hamas’s central leadership, although all Hamas leaders remained safe. At the time of the attack, Hamas leaders were reportedly considering the ceasefire plan proposed by the United States for the Gaza conflict.
