Janjua Meets Turkish Naval Chief To Discuss Cooperation

Islamabad (April 04, 2018): Pakistan and Turkey have reiterated their strong resolve to support each other and to further enhance and strengthen their mutual cooperation.

This resolve was expressed during a meeting between National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua and a delegation led by Turkish Naval Chief Adnan OZBAL in Islamabad today (Tuesday).

They discussed different aspects of improving bilateral relations and defense cooperation, matters pertaining to security situation in the region.

Yesterday, Commander Turkish Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Adnan Ozbal visited Naval Headquarters Islamabad and called on Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi as part of a bilateral visit aimed at enhancing collaboration between the two navies.

Upon arrival at Naval Headquarters, the dignitary was received by Chief of the Naval Staff. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy presented Guard of Honour. The visiting dignitary was then introduced to Principal Staff Officers at NHQ.Later, Vice Admiral Adnan Ozbal called on Chief of the Naval Staff in his office, where discussions on professional matters of mutual interests and bilateral naval collaboration were held. Various avenues of cooperation including training, exchange of visits and conduct of bilateral naval exercises between the two Navies were also focused. Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi highlighted Pakistan’s commitment and contributions in fight against terrorism including participation of Pakistan Navy in Coalition Task Forces against piracy and maritime terrorism. Vice Admiral Adnan Ozbal highly appreciated role and contributions of Pakistan Navy in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The call was followed by a briefing on Pakistan Navy’s perspective on regional issues and PN contributions towards peace and stability in the Indian Ocean. Later, Chief of Turkish Navy also laid floral wreath at Shuhada Monument at Naval Headquarters.Later, Commander Turkish Naval Forces is scheduled to visit Pakistan Navy Field Commands at Lahore & Karachi. The Admiral’s visit is taking place concurrent with the port visit of TCG GELIBOLU, Turkish Navy Frigate and 1st PN-TN Bilateral Naval Exercise in North Arabian Sea from 7-9 Apr 18.

The visit of Commander Turkish Naval Forces is expected to further strengthen the bilateral collaboration between the two Navies.

Later, President Mamnoon Hussain awarded him with Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military).

Speaking on the occasion in Islamabad on Monday, President said that defence ties between Pakistan and Turkey will further improve in future.

The President said democratic institutions of both the countries are deeply linked with one another.

He said depth in the ties between Islamabad and Ankara is beyond words.

The President said Pakistan and Turkey are cooperating each other on international fora.

Mamnoon Hussain said that Turkey is playing a courageous role in resolving issues confronting the Muslim Ummah.He lauded the role of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for peace in Afghanistan.

He said Turkey has wholeheartedly hosted migrants at its soil. He stressed the need for unity among the Muslim world.
