JI Chief Hafiz Naeem challenges 26th constitutional amendment in SC

Islamabad: Jamat-e-Islami (JI) on Monday challenged the 26th constitutional amendment in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Chief of Ameer Jamat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman filed petition against the 26th constitutional amendment through his counsel Imran Shafique.

The petition insisted the court to annul the amendment while it be declared that Chief Justice will be appointed on basis of the seniority.

It also insisted the top court to suspend the establishment of judicial commission .

The JI petition adopted the view that the 26th constitutional amendment is against the fundamental structure of the constitution and against the several constitutional clauses.

Federal government including all the four provinces have been made party in the petition.
