JI Leader Rao Muhammad Zafar Passes Away

LAHORE – Veteran Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader and former South Punjab emir, Rao Muhammad Zafar, passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness. He was widely respected for his dedication to social service and religious activism.

Zafar also held the position of president of the Alkhidmat Foundation’s Punjab chapter, where he played a key role in expanding humanitarian efforts across the province.

Zafar’s death follows the recent passing of another prominent JI figure, Professor Khurshid Ahmad, who died in April in Leicester, United Kingdom, at the age of 93. A renowned scholar and former deputy chief of JI, Professor Ahmad was born on March 23, 1932, in Delhi.

He earned master’s degrees in both Economics and Islamic Studies from the University of Karachi, which later awarded him an honorary doctorate in Education for his exceptional academic contributions.

Both men are remembered for their tireless efforts in promoting Islamic values and public welfare.
