JI sit-in against K-Electric outside Governor House enters 4th day

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi’s sit-in against K-Electric over alleged over-billing, prolonged load-shedding and collection of illegal meter rents and banks charges by the power utility entered fourth day outside Governor House.

Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Eng. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Reham, who is leading the drive against the power utility, says that they would not end the sit-in until their demands are not met.

Addressing a press conference at the camp last night, he said that they were not staging the protest for the sake of politics, rather for the rights of people of Karachi.

He alleged federal and provincial governments were patronizing the power utility which is involved in minting money from the consumers.

The JI leader also came down hard on National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for its failure to safeguard the interests of consumers.

Naeem-ur-Rehman said that the workers remained peaceful despite shelling and baton charges, adding that JI sit-in is for the public rights, as JI is protesting against load shedding and over-billing by K-Electric.

He reiterated that the party wants K-Electric to put an end to over-billing. “The money that they have looted from people should be returned.”The JI Karachi ameer said they were not protesting for the sake of politics.

It is to be mentioned here that the JI is running a campaign against the power utility for its alleged over-billing, unannounced load-shedding, charging of meter rents and bank charges illegally for the last few months and have staged demonstrations against the power utility across the city.
