KARACHI: The city’s Jinnah Bridge has reopened following an extensive rehabilitation project, inaugurated on Monday by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab. The upgrade, carried out in District Keamari, was completed at a cost of Rs609 million.
During the ceremony, Mayor Wahab highlighted the strategic importance of Jinnah Bridge, which links the port area with key highways and the Native Jetty Bridge, serving as a vital route for commuters and transport vehicles.
The rehabilitation work involved the replacement of 552 metres of expansion joints and the resurfacing of 775,000 square metres of asphalt, ensuring safer and smoother travel across the bridge.
Mayor Wahab emphasized that the project would significantly ease traffic movement between the port and other parts of Karachi, improving logistics and daily commutes. He also reaffirmed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) commitment to providing safer and more efficient travel facilities for citizens.
In addition, the mayor mentioned that sewage treatment plants in Mauripur and Haroonabad are expected to become operational later this year, further enhancing city infrastructure.
