He achieved this feat on the fourth day of the third Test against New Zealand on Tuesday. Root scored 54 runs in the second innings against the Kiwis, becoming the highest run-scorer against New Zealand in Test cricket.
Joe Root has scored 1925 runs by playing 40 innings against New Zealand. Earlier, the record of scoring the most runs in Test cricket against New Zealand was held by former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad who scored 1919 runs in 29 Test innings.
