ISLAMABAD: The government may ban Jamaaat-ud-Dawa (DuD) as all preparation in this regard has been completed as Interior Minister is expected to address an important press conference in this regard.
Sources said that Interior Ministry Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will announce to ban JuD in his press conference to be addressed today.
On the other hand, the JuD has decided to challenge the expected ban in the court.
It is to be mentioned here that Jud was banned in 2005 which was overturned by the court.
Earlier, the government has put Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed among 38 other leaders of the organisation on Exit Control List (ECL) a day after Punjab government put Saeed under house arrest.
On Monday, Punjab government issued orders to place Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed and other top leader under house arrest. The government launched a crackdown against JuD and a heavy contingent of police was deployed around the JuD headquarter and offices in Muridke and Lahore.
Sources in Interior Ministry said that action was taken some 38 important leaders of JuD whose name were put on ECL.
The ministry has also issued directives to provincial governments to cancel the arms licenses issued to the 38 leaders of JuD. The provincial authorities were further asked to keep the 38 leaders in watch list.
It is to be mentioned here that five top leaders of JuD including Hafiz Saeed were put under house arrest yesterday.
A high level meeting will be held today regarding ban on JuD. The meeting will be attended among others by high officials of Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
