JUI Chief emphasises maintaining moderate relations with PTI despite ongoing conflict

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has stated that they are not ending their differences with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), but they wish to keep the relationship within a moderate scope and limit disagreements to mere differences.

Speaking to the media in Charsadda, he expressed strong concerns about the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the role of the opposition. He criticized that provincial opposition parties are approaching courts to suspend the memberships of assembly members, and he pointed out that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has also filed cases against them.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman questioned whether PML-N truly understands who benefits from such actions. He emphasized that moving forward with such an opposition requires serious consideration. He further stated that if the ruling parties resort to insults and the opposition is also taking legal action against them, it raises the question of how to support any no-confidence motion under such circumstances.

Regarding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he stressed the need for change and said that this change should come from within PTI itself.

On the issue of Afghanistan, he advised that relations with neighboring countries should be maintained through dialogue, and urged the government to consider negotiations as the solution to problems.

Addressing the law and order situation, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that maintaining peace is the responsibility of the government and state institutions. He claimed that the state is not weak and, with sincere efforts, unrest can be controlled. However, he expressed disappointment that the government does not seem to be serious about establishing peace
