KARACHI: Justice Junaid Ghaffar was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori at a historic venue notable for its association with Pakistan’s founding leader, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who had taken his oath as the country’s first Governor-General at the same location.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah along with other prominent dignitaries. Notably, this was the first time that the oath ceremony was held at this significant site.
In a recent development, President Asif Ali Zardari approved the appointments of the chief justices for four high courts across the country. Following the President’s approval, the Law Ministry issued official notifications confirming these appointments.
The notifications included Justice Sarfraz Dogar’s appointment as the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court (IHC), Justice S.M. Attique Shah as Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC), Justice Rozi Khan as Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court (BHC), and Justice Junaid Ghaffar as the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court (SHC).
It is also recalled that last week, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) recommended these appointments, which were subsequently approved by the President. The President is expected to administer the oath to Justice Sarfraz Dogar later today.
