KARACHI: Karachi is facing a severe gas crisis, leaving domestic and commercial consumers struggling as supply remains critically low or completely suspended in several areas.
According to sources, the crisis has intensified following the shutdown of two gas fields, causing a shortfall of 45 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD). The closure of one field cut supply by 30 MMCFD, while the second resulted in an additional loss of 15 MMCFD.
The shortage has badly affected industrial zones, where factories are facing acute gas shortages, disrupting production and adding to economic pressures.
Residents have also expressed frustration that despite SSGC spending billions of rupees on new gas pipelines, gas pressure in many localities remains negligible, providing little to no relief.
The residents have urged authorities to take immediate measures to restore gas supply and address the persistent crisis as daily life in the metropolis continues to suffer.
