KARACHI: The business community of Karachi has announced the launch of a new airline, ‘Air Karachi.’
Businessman Hanif Gohar confirmed the airline’s registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and a request for a license has been submitted to the federal government.
In its initial phase, the airline plans to lease three aircraft and has appointed retired Air Vice Marshal Imran as CEO. The project is backed by an investment of Rs 5 billion, with shareholders contributing Rs 50 million each.
This announcement follows a surge in applications from new airlines like Jet Green, Q Airways, and Go Green Air, which have approached the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for licenses to operate in Pakistan. The influx of new carriers is expected to boost the economy, create job opportunities, and offer more travel options for passengers.
Currently, three private airlines—Airblue, SereneAir, and AirSial—are already operating domestically.
