KARACHI: Karachi’s business community has unveiled plans to launch a new airline, Air Karachi, marking a significant development in the country’s aviation sector.
The airline has already been formally registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and an application for its operational licence has been submitted to the federal government.
Business magnate Hanif Gauhar, a key figure behind the initiative, revealed that Air Karachi will begin operations with three leased aircraft in its initial phase. He expressed confidence in securing the necessary approvals, stating, “We have submitted the application for the license, and we are hopeful for approval in the coming days.”
The airline is being launched with an initial investment of Rs 5 billion, with prominent businessmen backing the venture. Air Vice Marshal (retd) Imran has been appointed as the CEO of Air Karachi, bringing his extensive experience to the project.
Among the notable investors are high-profile individuals such as Aqeel Karim Dhedi, Arif Habib, SM Tanveer, Bashir Jan, Khalid Tawab, Zubair Tufail, and Hamza Tabani, each contributing Rs 50 million to the airline’s capital.
