KARACHI, August 25, 2026: An Additional District and Sessions Court South has issued directives to file criminal cases against three excise officers following allegations of illegal detention of three individuals, including two women.
This action was initiated after a magistrate conducted a raid on an Excise Police Station and rescued the detained persons. The magistrate subsequently released them on personal bonds.
The court highlighted that the detainees were held without proper documentation or official record. They also claimed that they were pressured to pay bribes to secure their release.
The court condemned the conduct of the excise officials, stating that their attempts to resist the magistrate’s inspection and interference in judicial proceedings were unlawful. It was noted that the officials used offensive language and obstructed justice, prompting the magistrate to summon police assistance.
Furthermore, the court observed that both the excise personnel and some private individuals tried to forcibly move the detained individuals, which led to the magistrate calling in law enforcement.
In response, the court ordered the local SHO to initiate criminal cases against the involved officials for illegal detention, hindrance of judicial activities, and misconduct.
Additionally, the court awarded a compensation of Rs90,000 to the victims, with each of the three individuals receiving Rs30,000. In-charge Mumtaz Mirani, Inspector Ghulam Mustafa, and Arshad Rahim were instructed to pay the compensation.
The court also directed SSP South to suspend the salaries of the implicated excise officers pending further investigation.
