Karachi experiences first winter Drizzle Following PMD Weather Forecast

KARACHI: Several areas of Karachi saw their first light winter drizzle on Monday night, as the city received intermittent showers.

The gentle rain affected neighborhoods including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Liaquatabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Hassan Square. In addition, light rain was observed in Karimabad, Ayesha Manzil, and Federal B Area.  This weather development was anticipated, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had already forecasted a change in weather patterns.A new weather system is bringing sporadic rainfall across Sindh, Balochistan, and northern regions starting from the night of January 30, according to the PMD forecast.

The department has warned that a westerly weather system will influence both northern and southern parts of the country, resulting in rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall over mountainous zones during this period.  Rainfall is expected to commence from the evening of January 30 and continue intermittently until February 2, impacting cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and neighboring districts.

The PMD has warned that Karachi may experience light to moderate rain, while other parts of Sindh could see isolated showers during this winter spell.
Northern regions—including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and nearby areas—are forecasted to receive rain with snowfall at higher elevations.

Officials have cautioned that heavy snowfall could disrupt travel in hilly terrain, potentially leading to road closures, low visibility, and increased risks for travelers and residents alike.

In Balochistan, districts such as Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, and surrounding areas are also expected to see rain and snowfall, with colder conditions intensifying across the province.

Travelers and tourists are advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary journeys, and stay updated on weather conditions before venturing out.
Urban authorities in Karachi and other cities have been instructed to stay vigilant and ensure drainage systems are functioning properly to prevent water accumulation and flooding on roads.
