KARACHI: A severe heatwave has gripped Karachi, with the actual temperature climbing to 40°C while the “feels like” temperature has surged to 46°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
Officials attributed the extreme discomfort to high humidity levels, which are making conditions far more intense than the recorded temperature. Slow-moving sea breezes have further worsened the hot and humid environment across the city.
Amid the rising heat, Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a heatwave alert, urging authorities and residents to take precautionary measures to reduce health risks.
Power utility K-Electric has assured citizens that no loadshedding will take place during the heatwave. Spokesperson Imran Rana stated that the company is prepared to meet increasing electricity demand, with teams on standby to address outages quickly.
He also encouraged residents to follow heatwave safety guidelines, adding that KE is coordinating with civic agencies to manage the situation effectively.
The utility further noted that routine power shutdowns have been suspended for now, while around 70% of the city already remains exempt from loadshedding.
