Karachi launches new pink bus routes, revised timings to boost safe travel for women

KARACHI:  New routes and updated operating hours for Karachi’s Pink Bus Service, dedicated exclusively to women, will come into effect from October 17.

The women-only Pink Bus Service has rolled out an additional route connecting Abdullah Chowk with Numaish, along with a revised timetable applicable from November 17, 2025. The changes aim to make daily travel safer, more predictable, and more comfortable for female commuters.

Launched to ensure secure, low-cost, and dependable mobility for women across the metropolis, the Pink Bus Service has seen exceptional growth particularly after 18 new buses were added to its fleet last year.

Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the service will now operate in three dedicated time windows:

8:00am – 9:00am

1:00pm – 2:00pm

5:00pm – 7:00pm

He emphasized that safeguarding women and improving their travel experience remains a top government agenda.

“This initiative is designed to reduce the daily commuting difficulties faced by women in a densely populated city like Karachi,” he stated.

The buses are equipped with enhanced security features, tracking systems, and trained personnel to ensure a smooth journey. The minister also hinted at further expansion of routes to support women traveling for work, education, and everyday needs.

With an affordable Rs50 fare and free travel for girls under five, the Pink Bus Service continues to serve as an essential urban transport facility. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to launch the second phase of the Pink Scooty Scheme, further strengthening mobility options for women in Karachi.
