KARACHI: Sindh Police has placed Karachi on high alert after receiving fresh intelligence reports warning of potential security threats in the metropolis.
Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police chaired a high-level meeting in Karachi to review the overall law and order situation and evaluate recent intelligence inputs, according to local media reports.
Officials familiar with the meeting said security concerns were discussed in the context of recent cross-border developments. Authorities also reviewed protective measures for sensitive government buildings and key private installations across the city.
Intelligence agencies reportedly flagged possible terrorist threats and identified vulnerabilities along both internal and external routes leading into Karachi.
Following the briefing, the IG directed law enforcement agencies to tighten security at all entry and exit points of the city. He ordered that the Quick Response Force (QRF) in every district remain on round-the-clock high alert to respond swiftly to any untoward incident.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Special Branch were instructed to enhance coordination and ensure timely sharing of intelligence with district police to facilitate prompt action.
Senior police officers have been tasked with personally inspecting sensitive locations and maintaining an active presence in the field. Additionally, the IG made it mandatory to conduct general hold-ups and snap checking exercises twice daily to strengthen vigilance and deter potential threats.
